Costa Rican authorities announced on 14 May that they would ‘ban products containing synthetic nicotine’ in the country.
The resolution will prohibit ‘the sale, use, marketing, advertising, promotion and sponsorship of e-cigarette liquids containing synthetic nicotine and cannabinoids,’ the Ministry of Health said in a statement.
In a December 2023 report, the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned that ‘urgent control measures are needed for e-cigarettes’ because ‘they do not contribute to smoking cessation and there is alarming evidence that they are hazardous to health.’
In the report, the World Health Organisation states, ‘E-cigarettes containing nicotine are harmful to health and highly addictive.’
