In order to protect passengers, especially children and teenagers, posters of the ban will be put up across the country from next week, Bild am Sonntag reported
Since 2007, the railway station has been completely smoke-free. DB relies on the Federal NonSmoker Protection Act. Since then, smoking has only been allowed in specially designated areas. Smoking, including vaping, is generally not allowed in the station. However, about 400 train stations (out of a total of 5,400) have smoking areas. And it costs money to get rid of the butts.
In 2023, the railway will spend €8.7 million on cleaning waste containers and ashtrays
The only exception to the rail joint ban: smoking marijuana for medical reasons has been and will continue to be allowed. Meanwhile, the Augsburg Allgemeine Zeitung reports that the federal government wants to tighten marijuana laws to suit the needs of the states.
