Speaking at a seminar on “Vietnam’s New Generation of Cigarettes: Policy Recommendations” on March 19, Nguyen Chi Nhan, Director of the Legal and Training Department of the Vietnam Tobacco Association (VTA), said that since the 2018 World Health Organization (WHO) COP8 conference, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control has identified heated cigarettes as a type of tobacco.
A National Assembly representative who participated in the passage of the Prevention and Control of Harmful Effects of Tobacco Law, 2012, commented that the law clearly defines tobacco and related products, including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, and believes that the existing law is qualified to regulate emerging tobacco products.
As of July 2021, 184 of the World Health Organization’s 195 member States have implemented heated tobacco management policies in accordance with current laws.
