Cairo – May 22, 2024: Philip Morris International (PMI) on Wednesday announced the acquisition of a minority indirect stake of 14.7% in Egypt’s state-owned tobacco manufacturer Orient (EAST.CA).
Orient is the largest cigarette manufacturer in Egypt, and its products also include cigars and pipe tobacco.
PMI and Eastern seek to explore potential strategic areas of mutual long-term cooperation in technology, manufacturing and innovation on a non-exclusive basis. These include heating tobacco products to pave the way for a smoke-free future in Egypt.
