Seoul –(Newswire)– Bying-Hwa Lee, CEO of Toolgen, a company specializing in gene editing, KOSDAQ 199800 signed an agreement with KT&G (CEO Bang Kyeong-man), which specializes in the manufacture and sale of tobacco Korea announced on May 23, 2024 the signing of a joint research and development agreement to develop a high value-added tobacco corrective system.
The main purpose of the agreement is to use gene editing technology to develop new varieties such as tobacco with reduced specific ingredients and tobacco with good flavor, and the two companies will jointly secure and commercialize new varieties through the development of new genetic resources and variety breeding.
Byeong-wha Lee, CEO of Toolgen, said: “Toolgen is using gene editing technology to develop high value-added seeds at the highest level in the world, and gene edited petunias, soybeans, and potatoes have reached the highest level globally. Approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a regulatory exemption for biotech crops. “The two companies plan to engage in mutually beneficial discussions and cooperation on the agreement, including joint research, academic exchanges, and joint use of research equipment and facilities,” he said.
